Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kickoff set for Oct. 11

The Crisis Center and Safe Place of the Permian Basin will join forces to host the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kickoff at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11 at 300 North Grant Ave. outside of the Ector County Courthouse.

Guest speakers will include Ector County Attorney Dusty Gallivan, Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland and Jon Nielson, the father of Monica Deming, the Odessa woman who was stalked and murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2015. NewsWest 9’s Victor Lopez will act as the master of ceremonies.

Community experts on domestic violence will make proclamations. The Crisis Center and Safe Place of the Permian Basin will distribute purple ribbons, and end the kickoff at noon with a balloon release to honor victims of domestic violence. Light refreshments will be served.

Domestic violence impacts 1 in 4 women and 1 in 14 men in the United States. Everyone is invited to take a stand and fight against this problem facing our communities. Event speakers are subject to change.
